Bachata
Bachata varies between fast open dancing and close sensual dancing. The most popular style is close and sensual. Its takes some influences from Tango. Leaders and followers dance close with synchronised body motion. Slow dips and drops are used along with close turns and gentle arm moves. It offers a contrast to the livelier Salsa. It is danced within Salsa socials. The dancing is sensual but not smutty. It is a rewarding and romantic dance to learn. An excellent wedding dance (if the dress is suitable)
Bachata originates from The Dominican Republic where the style is fast and light. The music is characterised by staccato guitar and ballad style singing. The lyrics often speak of lost or distant love. For many years it was an underground music and dance movement within a politically oppressed Dominican Republic. It is often referred to as the Domican Blues. As with Tango, Bachata was danced in brothels.
Bachata now has number of styles. Tango influenced Bachatatango and Salsa and Tango influenced Bachata Moderna are common styles . It is a versatile dance but lessons can be hard to find.
