Cha Cha Cha was created in Cuba. It began when a song was written for the President in 1953. The song was a slow version of Mambo music. It has gone on to be a adopted as one of the standard ballroom dances. When danced at a Salsa Social it is more relaxed at less OTT that than the ballroom variant. The steps are very similar to Salsa. It is characterised by slower movement mixed with a short syncopated cha cha step. It offers a change of pace from the faster Salsa. It is believed to get its name from the sound of the ladies shoes on the dance floor.
